The Deal

So, Mark and I made a terrible bet against each other.

We can't cut our hair for a year (as of May 26, 2010). The consequence for violating the bet is whoever cuts their hair has to shave off their eyebrows. And they will be shamed!

I've made these kind of bets before, but have never followed through with them. The problem has always been that it's a bet only against myself. Now it's between two people, and Mark is serious. Hopefully this one works out for the best!

Whiteboard

I walked into my kitchen and found this written on the family whiteboard:

There's no such thing as faith apart from risk-taking. Creativity takes risks. The people who are most secure in Jesus Christ shouldn't be scared to try new things. - Howard Hendricks

I don't know Howard Hendricks, but I like his style.

Proverbs 16:9

The past couple weeks have been pretty full, to say the least. School has been non-stop, work has been scattered, and my downtime seems to only fit in around midnight. Not bad, but a little more intense than usual, which I think is good. I like having things to do, but the balance on my end has been pretty sloppy.

This morning, I was able to kinda reflect on the things that have been going on. I was able to slow down and stop all my thoughts from sloshing around, which felt great. It seems that when I can't sit down and really think for a while that my thoughts get bigger and messier. This happens to be especially true when I start planning things out with school and work. And despite my insecurities about the future, I am always reminded of how faithful God is to show me that He is in control. I can make all the plans I want, but in the end, He is going to guide my steps according to His perfect will. And to that I say, "Thanks God!"

Proverbs 16:9
"Man makes his plans, God guides his steps."

Big Sur Bouldering

Today, Kyle and I went out to Big Sur to do some bouldering. I have never climbed real rock before, so for me this trip was kind of a big deal. We left around 9 and worked a couple problems till about 4. It was a long day for my hands, but so worth it! I got to use my new pad too, which works great.

The first spot we went to had a V4 traverse with a mantle finish. It was pretty high up, but the mantle was really good. Right next to that was a V9 and V13. They were super stretchy, so I didn't get very far on those, lol. It was cool to be able to see these problems today because they sometimes get flooded by the water running near them, thus flushing out the landings. The water was at a good level though, just low enough for us to lay down our pads.

The picture here is a picture of the boulder we worked most of the day. I was quickly reminded we weren't working a gym problem when I saw jagged rocks on the ground and poison oak on the top out. The last couple of holds kicked my butt, but Kyle almost got it. Next time, next time.

Cannery Row

Today Steven and I went to Cannery Row and took some pictures around the area behind El Torito's. We went when the tide was high, so we had an interesting time getting around the rocks. No slips or falls though!

I got a parking ticket while we were walking around, which was a bummer because we wanted to look around more. Fortunately on our way back to the car, we found another parking spot with 45 minutes left on it. We snagged it pretty quick. So cool!
